It was a truly magic winter morning when I drove my family from my parents house in Avesta back to Stockholm. When we turned right in the roundabout just outside Sala to continue south, we met the rising sun casting its rays through a light fog and there were a thousand colors of white.<\/p>\n
We were too pressed for time to just stop and take out the camera, also knowing that some things never can be rightfully represented. But a few minutes later, I did have to stop, and then grabbed the opportunity to capture the amazing light.<\/p>\n
This is T\u00e4rna Church<\/a> just outside Sala, on the way to Enk\u00f6ping. The oldest section of the church was probably built\u00a0around\u00a01300\u00a0and\u00a0is the eastern part of the existing \u00a0nave.\u00a0During the\u00a0late Middle Ages the arches\u00a0and\u00a0a church porch\u00a0was added. In 1756 the\u00a0nave was extended to\u00a0the west\u00a0with\u00a0a\u00a0stack.\u00a0The present\u00a0vestry\u00a0was built\u00a0in 1775, replacing\u00a0an older one. \u00a0A full\u00a0reconstruction was carried out in\u00a01897 – 1898 with a new\u00a0choir,\u00a0new\u00a0vaults\u00a0and\u00a0a church\u00a0tower\u00a0which replaced\u00a0an\u00a0earlier\u00a0bell. \u00a0The conversion was made in the, at the time, very popular gothic revival\u00a0style, and could almost be considered to be a totally new church.<\/p>\n I actually wanted this post to start with my son freely associating and telling me what he was thinking about when he saw this photo, but he didn’t want to play along.
