A couple of weeks ago my two good friends Johan and Per took me on a weekend trip to Gotland for some recreational time together. The theme for Saturday was photography so we packed the car with our photo gear and drove across the island. One of the places we visited was Furillen, and old limestone quarry.

You should definitely check out Johan’s great photos of Roland, an old fisherman who we had the fortune to run into on Friday afternoon, just before dark.

I visited the Christmas market at Överjärva gård this last weekend and spotted this man carving out some wooden birds. He had some pretty nice bullfinches but they we’re a bit too expensive.  You can see a glimpse of them in the right of the picture.

I used my iphone to take the picture. Slightly cropped and then I tried Analog on my mac using the x-process filter.

I walked along Rörstrandsgatan and was getting closer to the end of the street where you have a great view of all the railroad tracks. I looked down at Karlberg station when a train just pulled in. When it left I saw this woman, all alone on the platform. She must have missed the train by an inch. Then she just sat down quietly in a lotus position and waited for the next one.

A few weeks ago I were at a two day conference at Häringe Palace south of Stockholm. A really nice and quiet place with a long and inspiring history. Every palace worth its name  have ghosts though, and Häringe is not an exception. At least not according to the guide that took us on a walk through the palace. In one of the rooms on the ground floor I found this beautiful sculpture in front of the window.

Unfortunately I forgot to ask who it was.

Tree time

It was a fantastic winter day and I took a short walk during a break and ended up with some pictures of trees.

It was a truly magic winter morning when I drove my family from my parents house in Avesta back to Stockholm. When we turned right in the roundabout just outside Sala to continue south, we met the rising sun casting its rays through a light fog and there were a thousand colors of white.

We were too pressed for time to just stop and take out the camera, also knowing that some things never can be rightfully represented. But a few minutes later, I did have to stop, and then grabbed the opportunity to capture the amazing light.

This is Tärna Church just outside Sala, on the way to Enköping. The oldest section of the church was probably built around 1300 and is the eastern part of the existing  nave. During the late Middle Ages the arches and a church porch was added. In 1756 the nave was extended to the west with a stack. The present vestry was built in 1775, replacing an older one.  A full reconstruction was carried out in 1897 – 1898 with a new choir, new vaults and a church tower which replaced an earlier bell.  The conversion was made in the, at the time, very popular gothic revival style, and could almost be considered to be a totally new church.

I actually wanted this post to start with my son freely associating and telling me what he was thinking about when he saw this photo, but he didn’t want to play along. So feel free to share your own associations.

Just playing around with my new Panasonic GH2 …

My main reason for buying it was the allegedly  good video capabilities. During the fall, I’ve spent Monday evenings at Kulturama attending a documentary film course. I can honestly say that I’m no way near knowing how everything works, but I am inspired. A one or two year course totally focused on filming seems more appropriate and I wish I had the time and money for that. But I don’t.

However, with the inspiration and the new camera I hope I can find the time to go out and shoot and just practise. So from now on, I declare this blog alive again, and I’ll use it, not only for still images, but for videos as well.

Rösjöbadet is buzzing with people in the summer but somehow that seems very distant now.

There are times you just want to sit for yourself and think things over. And don’t want people to know who you are.This wasn’t one of those moments, but it would have been a perfect one.
